Kidulthood: How and why does Kidulthood reflect to inner city life?

Media language:Non diegetic sound, soundbride, close ups, slow motion shots, cuts to different shots to show the setting, fast paced music, cuts to different scenes to let the audience know whats happening, helps them identify all the characters, montague scene to help identify characters, establishing shots, mise-en -scene conveys lifestyle of characters, clothing conveys typical clothes of youngsters today: caps, hoodies, trainers, background music helps to move the story along-- helps to create tension and suspense, split screen to show what both male and female characters have in common, low angle shot of Trife-- to show his isolation and puts all the attention on him. Long shot-- zooom in, urban music, blurry images, natural lighting as it is mostly during the day, flashbacks are also used.

Genre: Gangster/Urban drama-- Follows the generic conventions and also has some iconographic elements. Clothing, mise-en-scene, language, contemporary issues

Representation: majority of black youths, however there is also a representation of a white ethnicity from boith the male and female perspective. Some of the representations can be said to be stereotyped eg: Asian male working at a corner shop.

Audience: Mainly teenagers between the ages of 15-20. Range form a mixed ethnic minority, although there may be a wide range of a black minority who will appeal to it, as it "shows us how it really is"

Ideologies and Values: Portrays alot of contemporary issues which raises awareness and also allows the audience to be educated in a powerful way. This can also help get the message across. The film can also have a social effecton the audience, as it can help to create social change. "Open the eyes of many, close the ears of some"

Narrative: Set in North West, London. There is an inciting incident where the white girl commits suicide due to being badly bullied. Everything happens in the case of 24 hours which can suggest that in the real world so much can happen in so little time. Multi stranded narrative. Follows the theory of Propp. There is a little romance between Trife and Alisa. Follows the realistic element that not all problems can be solved, you just have to live with it. Have a dayoff school where everything happens, and they are left to deal with it on their own. Alisa and Trife devlop throughout the film fro kids to adults, in the case of 24 hours.

Social context: Nowadays everyone lives in a multi cultural society where nobody is judged for the way they look.

Historical context: The women in the film have some power in terms of being independant, but are still stereotyped in terms of being looked upon as sexual objects.

Economic context:

Political context: Mot of the issues portrayed in the film are still being tackled in todays society. This is why it is important for the film to have a large impact on the audience.
