SOME MORE RESEARCH!!

Race
Race, like sex, is a set of genetically defined, biological characteristics. However, like gender, it is also a set of culturally defined characteristics. Representation of race in the media can consist of the same sort of rigid stereotypes that constitute gender portrayal. However, stereotyping of race is seen as more harmful than stereotyping of gender, as media representation may constitute the only experience of contact with a particular ethnic group that an audience (particularly an audience of children) may have. Racial stereotypes are often based on social myth, perpetuated down the ages. Thus, the media depiction of, say, Native American Indians, might provide a child with their only experience of Native American Indian culture and characters, and may provide that child with a set of narrow prejudices which will not be challenged elsewhere within their experience. The need for a more accurate portrayal of the diversity of different races is a priority for political agendas, but, as ever, it seems as though it will take a while for political thinking to filter through to programme and film-making.

SELF EVALUATION

Attainment-2: I think this year i am really focusing on the subject, and i am understanding everything clearly. The work we do in class straight forward, and i think that i am beginning to look at it in depth, especially as the module includes looking at things in context.

Effort-2: I try hard in every lesson and try to participate in every way that i can. I take interest in the lessons and listen to other people's views as well as contributing my own opinions.

Punctuality-1: I am always on time to every lesson, unless there is anything urgent.

Submission and quality of homework-2: I try to complete work and reach the deadlines set, but sometimes i have to admit there is a lot of work, which i am not able to complete on time. I think that i should make sure that the deadlines are met on time.

Ability to work independently-1: Most of the work is done independently, and i think that i am able to work well on my own. The blog work is all done independently, with help form others now and then, but it is still all down to our own work. The independent study is also the biggest piece of work, which requires our own work. (hence the word "independent")

Quality of writing-1: I think that my quality of writing is improving and developing. I am beginning to write like a A2 medi student, and i am becoming familiar with the media terminology. I am also gaining knowledge from reading newspapers, and also engaging myself in posting up news articles every week.

Organisation of Media folder-1: my media folder is very very neat!! I have different sections for both teachers, and the modules that we are studying. ( Sir! You need to check it!!)

Oral contributions in class-2: I try to contribute in class, but it is hard when there is more of you, as there are so many different ideas that are put across. It is imporant that i participate more in class and put my ideas forward.

Standard of Module 5 blog (Year 13s only): I think that my blog is coming together alright, but i think that i need to do a lot more research independently, apart from when the teacher sets tasks to do. However, I have been completing the tasks set.

Standard of Module 6 blog (Year 13s only): I think this blog is a good idea as it gets us more involved in the media, as requires us to post up news articles every week. We also have to comment on our own views which is what counts.
